Writing Examples

I predominately use my writing in video scripts, designed for a voice over and enhanced with visuals. I wrote several at Centenary that helped explain key Methodist concepts and were used during worship services.

Leading several VIM teams down to Bolivia, I did a great deal of writing in different formats to help share the story of partnership with the Bolivian Methodist Church in Cobija. This included newsletter articles, presentations, videos and a team blog.

Hola from Bolivia!

Centenary’s VIM team just returned from our 5th year supporting the Wichitas District commitment with Cobija, Bolivia. Our brothers and sisters in Bolivia send you their love.

It was exciting this year to see how far the church construction has come. The congregation of Cristo el Buen Pastor has held  weekly services in their new church building for over a year now even though construction continued around them. Since last year, they completed all the electrical work. Now the church shines brightly at night and keeps members cool with lights and fans installed in the ceiling.

It’s also exciting to see how much the city of Cobija has grown over the past 5 years. New construction is everywhere. The local airport expanded. When Cristo el Buen Pastor’s cornerstone was blessed 5 years ago, the site sat on the outskirts of town. Now the city stretches out around the church on the busy road leading to the bustling airport.

Some changes have taken place in the church congregation as well. Cristo el Buen Pastor has a new pastor, retired Bishop Carlos Intipampa. The Methodist school we work with has a new principal as well, Christian Bolivar. We reestablished a strong relationship with the school and the congregation to keep our partnership strong. Our team also went out to visit several house churches in the district. It is great to see how strong the Methodist church is growing in Bolivia as they reach out to help the poorer areas of the country.

We already have plans to lead a team back next year at the end of June and we are raising funds to help them put in the final touches of the church. Please be in prayer about joining our team or supporting the work with our Bolivian brothers and sisters.

We want to thank everyone for supporting our VIM teams with your prayers, gifts, and enthusiasm.

Bible in 90 Days Script

As a church family, we have embarked on reading the Bible in 90 Days Challenge. And it has indeed been a challenge! We’ve just finished up the 2nd week, let’s see how it is going. Some of us have struggled.

Confession time! I’ve been constantly behind since Day 5. At one point I was two and a half days behind. Finally, I sat down for about 3 hours and read from Exodus 20 to Leviticus 14. So that included all the tabernacle building, priests clothing, all the clean and unclean and how many bulls, rams, and ethers of grain were needed for atonement offerings, etc. All of that in one evening. It was a struggle. But I’m not struggling alone, and that feels pretty awesome.

Some parts of the Bible are more exciting than others. Sometimes our eyes grow a little weary.

But sometimes we get so excited about what we’re discovering, it becomes hard to put it down.

And the best times are when we find those bits of gold. God’s word speaks to us in surprising ways and bridges the generations.

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;

the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

Numbers 6:24-26
